প্রথমটির সাথেই আমরা বেশি পরিচিত। সহজে বোঝার জন্যে এখানে অবশ্য আমরা Past subjunctive না বলে Past indefinite tense বলি। তবে দুটোর মধ্যে একটু পার্থক্য আছে। অবাস্তব বা অসম্ভব ঘটনার ক্ষেত্রে আমরা Past subjunctive ব্যবহার করি। Past indefinite এর সাথে পার্থক্য সাধারণত শুধু be verb ব্যবহারের সময়। Past subjunctive এর ক্ষেত্রে be এর form হবে were। ব্যবহার করা হয় subordinate clause এর সাথে।
